GEORGE FLOYD RIOT & ANTI-TRUMP PEACE PROTEST
On November 13, 2016 thousands came to stand in peace around 3.4 miles of Lake Merritt in Oakland, California, in response to the election of Donald Trump and to stand up against racism, sexism, homophobia, and Islamophobia.
On May 26, 2020 a series of protests and demonstrations against police brutality began in response to the murder of George Floyd, an unarmed African American man. Floyd was murdered after a police office knelt on Floyd's neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds; Floyd complained of not being able to breathe, but three other officers looked on and prevented passersby from intervening. The George Floyd protest movement spread to over 2,000 cities in over 60 countries. An estimated 15-26 million people had participated in the demonstrations in the US, making the protests the largest in U.S. history.
